KIM EUN-SOOK
Kim Eun-sook is a South Korean screenwriter.
She was born in 1973, Gangneung City, Gangwon Province.
She graduated Gangneung Women Secondary School, and earned a Bacholer of Literary Creation Degree in Seoul Art University.
She got married in 2006 and has a daughter.
Before she becoming a screenwriter, she wrote plays in Daehak-Road(one of cultural art road in South Korea that often held all sorts of cultural activities). In 2003, she had great chance to write a drama, South of the Sun, broadcasted in one of South Korea broadcasting station, SBS. After wrote a drama, she started to be a screen writer.
Then, she finally wrote unforgettable romance drama in her life. The drama name was Lovers in Paris. Hero and heroine of the drama were Park Shin-yang and Kim Jung-eun, and the drama became a major hit in 2004. The drama’s average viewer rating was 41.3%, and a peak was 57.6%. Because of this drama, she won 41st Baeksang Arts Awards (one of big arts awards in South Korea) Best TV Screenplay in 2005.
In 2010-2011, ‘Secret Garden’ became one of the biggest hits of Kim's career. Also, actor and actress of Secret Garden, Hyun Bin and Ha Ji-won, became more popular than before. So, Secret Garden won a number of awards at both of 2010 SBS Drama Awards and 47th Baeksang Arts Awards. In addition, sound track of the drama was popular, thus one of music company released album in 2011.
After 2 years, she wrote a world-famous drama, The Heirs. Broadcasting rights of The Heirs were sold to 13 countries. It had the highest selling price in Japan among all the 2013 Korean dramas.
She is well-known at the profession because she write play emotionally and unusually. For example, one of her drama name was City Hall. City Hall was about politics. Many people think politics are difficult and boring, but she broke prejudice and wrote drama unusually to make people easier to understand about politics. So, many people accepted politics more easily and interestingly.
Young girls and boys can learn from Kim Eun-sook how to captivate person’s heart through writing. There are lots of drama broadcasting in South Korea. But, most of drama can’t catch audience’s heart. Of cource, if main character of the drama is famous actor or actress, audience will watch that drama at first. However, screenwriter isn’t good at writing or write too obviously, audience will not watch that drama anymore eventhough main character is famous.
