Susy Susanti
Lucia Francisca Susy Susanti (Susy Susanti) was born in Tasikmalaya, West Java, Indonesia on 11 February 1971. She is undoubtedly the best female badminton player that Indonesia ever had, as she holds the best record of badminton competition achievements nationally and also internationally. The gold Olympic medal is one of them.
The gold Olympic medalist likes to play badminton since she was in primary school. She started her career at her uncle’s badminton club, PB Tunas Tasikmalaya. After she finished badminton training for 7 years and won badminton competition in 1985, she moved to Jakarta.

In her first professional career in 1989, she managed to win Indonesia Open. Furthermore, as the result of her hard working, she also won Sudirman cup in the same year, one of the most prestigious badminton championships.
Susy Susanti had become the most dominant women's singles player in the first half of the 1990s. As she won the All-England in 1990, 1991, 1993 and 1994, the World Badminton Grand Prix finale five times consecutively from 1990 to 1994 as well as in 1996, and the IBF World Championships in 1993. She is the only female player on earth to hold the Olympic, World Championship, and All-England singles title simultaneously. In addition, she also won Japan Open three times and Indonesia open five times. Last but not least, Susanti also won numerous Badminton Grand Prix Series events and five Badminton World Cups. |

After dating for a few years, on February 9th,1997, Susy is finally married to Alan Budikusuma. They are blessed with three children Lourencia Averina, born in 1999, Albertus Edward, born in 2000 and Sebastianus Frederick, born in 2003. Susan and Alan had been media attention since 1992 when both of them won a gold medal in Barcelona. When both of them came back to Indonesia, the government held a parade in order to welcome the bridegroom olympiad, Susy Susanti, and Alan Budikusuma. More than a million people were waiting for them lining the street to celebrate their victory. The parade was held more than two hours long. They stood in an open car with lei and Olympic gold medals around their necks and wandering toward the national monument in Merdeka square, on Sudirman Street, Jakarta.
In 2004, Susy and Alan created ASTEC (Alan and Susy Technology), a company which specially sells sports equipment. They sell rackets which the materials are from Japan and produced them in China. Furthermore, now the brand of ASTEC has become one of the most well-known sports equipment brands in Indonesia. They also have another business, a foot reflexology, and sports physiotherapy center called “Fontana”. She works together with a former Indonesian badminton player, Elizabeth Latief. Now they already have four branches, three in Jakarta: Kelapa Gading, Sunter, Pondok Indah, and one in Bogor.

We can learn from Susy Susanti’s biography that we have to fight for our dreams even it is hard and tiring. If we just relax and do not do anything, we will unable to make our dream come true. And for Women, she can be our role model. She is really confident and believe herself that she can do anything to grant her dreams, that is why she is the only female player to hold the Olympic, World Championship, and All-England singles titles simultaneously.
